Okhiale by David Irobonosen — Lyrics
About Okhiale
"Okhiale" is a vibrant Esan setting of the Sanctus, composed by Irobonosen David. It brings the traditional text of the Mass into the rhythmic and melodic idiom of Edo State, allowing the choir and congregation to lift their voices in indigenous worship.
Sung during the Eucharistic Prayer just after the Preface, the piece anchors the liturgy with its reverent opening. As the choir moves into the repeated acclamations of "Otiti bheje khokhun ne" (Hosanna in the highest), the music builds a joyful, driving momentum that captures the awe and majesty of the heavenly banquet.
