OMALA EYI OJO

"Omala Eyi Ojo" is an Igala setting of the Agnus Dei, composed by Jude Nnam as part of his Missa Ejumomi. Sung during the fraction rite just before Communion, this piece carries the solemn plea of the Mass—asking the Lamb of God for mercy and peace—and grounds it in the local voice of the Igala people.

The music moves at a gentle, steady walking pace, allowing the choir to lean into the warm, comforting harmonies. Nnam’s arrangement gives the soprano line a clear, lyrical melody that floats above the rhythmic support of the lower voices. As the choir sings "O chejumomi wa" (have mercy on us) and finally "O D'ebo ebo nwwa" (grant us peace), the setting creates a deeply reverent atmosphere in the church, preparing the congregation to receive the Eucharist.
