About Lidia ti lasso
This single-line madrigal for solo voice, Lidia ti lasso, by Claudio Saracini, comes from the late Renaissance Italian secular tradition. The text expresses the poignant lament of a lover leaving his beloved Lidia, but leaving his heart with her as a pledge. He questions how he can live without his heart, and wishes they could be together, so he would have his heart with him and she would have her heart (which is his) with her. The music would have been performed in a domestic setting or at court, accompanying dramatic poetry with expressive melody and subtle harmonic shifts.
