Lidia ti lasso by Domenico Mazzocchi — Lyrics
About Lidia ti lasso
Domenico Mazzocchi was a leading figure in the development of Italian monody and early opera. Lidia ti lasso is a secular madrigal for SSATB voices, written in Italian. The text expresses the singer's anguish at parting from his beloved Lidia, but finds solace in the fact that she holds his heart and is imprinted upon his soul. He laments how he can possibly live without his heart, and imagines the joy of being with her, as she is his heart, and he would thus have both his heart and her with him.
