The spring returning brings perpetual new splendours, with heavens believing, and all vows fulfilled. Italy and Germany rejoice, and let the heavens and the earth ring with triple applause. For Madrutius, king of men and priest of gods, rules both realms with Mercury’s swiftness. Thus you prophets, proclaim it is pleasing to heaven and earth, and carry the leader above the stars for his merit. This grand SATTB motet in Latin celebrates a royal occasion, possibly the return of spring or a ruler’s triumph. Jacquet de Mantua’s rich vocal writing unfolds the jubilant text, fitting for a festive gathering or a significant celebration.
