About In paradisum
Scott Villard's In paradisum is a setting of the traditional Latin antiphon sung at the committal service. The text invokes angels to escort the departed soul into paradise, where martyrs will welcome them and lead them to the holy city of Jerusalem. The choir of angels is invoked to receive them, and with Lazarus, the soul is granted eternal rest. Villard sets this comforting and hopeful text for a rich SSATBB choir, allowing for a full and resonant sound to reflect the solemnity and peace of the desired eternal homecoming. This sacred work offers a deeply moving musical expression for funeral services.
