Jacquet de Mantua, a significant composer of the High Renaissance, crafted this motet for SATB voices. The work is based on a Gospel passage where Jesus speaks to his disciples about his impending departure to the Father. The text, sung in Latin, explores the disciples' confusion and Jesus' explanation of his words: 'A little while, and you will not see me, and again a little while, and you will see me.' Jacquet masterfully sets this dialogue, using the polyphonic texture to convey the disciples' questioning and Jesus' reassuring words. The motet is a profound meditation on faith, absence, and eventual reunion, a characteristic theme in sacred Renaissance music.
