About In diebus illi a 8

Cesare Gussago, a composer of the late Renaissance and early Baroque periods, wrote this motet for double choir (SATB.SATB) setting a Latin text. The music reflects the biblical narrative of the Visitation, when Mary visits her cousin Elizabeth. The text begins with Mary's journey to the hill country of Judea and her greeting of Elizabeth, which causes the infant John the Baptist to leap in Elizabeth's womb, filled with the Holy Spirit. Mary's Magnificat follows, a joyous expression of praise to God. Gussago's setting likely uses the antiphonal possibilities of the double choir to dramatic effect, bringing the sacred story to life through rich vocal textures.
