Hodie Christus natus est a 7 by Andrea Gabrieli — Lyrics
About Hodie Christus natus est a 7
Andrea Gabrieli’s motet Hodie Christus natus est is written for a seven-part choir, SSAATBB. The Latin text is a joyous proclamation of the Nativity, with the choir exclaiming that Christ is born, the Savior has appeared, and angels and archangels sing and rejoice on earth. The music reflects this exuberance, opening with a sense of broad, celebratory welcome. The text's themes of angelic praise and the exultation of the righteous are mirrored in the rich, full sonorities of the eight-part texture, culminating in the jubilant "Gloria in excelsis Deo. Alleluia."
