Herr, unser Herrscher by Moritz Hauptmann — Lyrics
Herr, unser Herrscher, wie herrlich ist dein Name in allen Landen!
Da man dir danket im Himmel.
About Herr, unser Herrscher
Moritz Hauptmann’s motet Herr, unser Herrscher opens with a bold declamation of the text, setting the scene for a piece of considerable gravitas. The doubled SATB choir allows for a rich, full sonority, exploring a complex contrapuntal texture. The composer skillfully uses the forces at his disposal to create moments of both imposing power and tender reflection. The German text, drawn from the Psalms, speaks of God’s magnificent name and the gratitude offered to Him in heaven. Hauptmann’s setting is a profound and moving expression of these sacred words, suitable for a choir seeking substantial and deeply felt sacred repertoire.
