The composer reminds his listeners that God is faithful and will not allow them to be tempted beyond their strength, but will provide a way out of temptation so that they may be able to endure it. This powerful message from the First Epistle to the Corinthians is set in German for SSAATB choir. The composer adds a second verse urging those who stand to take heed lest they fall. Andrea Gabrieli’s setting is a sacred motet that draws on the rich tradition of Renaissance polyphony, offering a robust and contrapuntal musical response to the scriptural text.
