About God be in my head
This gentle anthem is ideal for quiet moments of reflection, perhaps during personal devotion or a smaller service. The composer Denis Mason sets a plea for divine presence at the heart of one’s thoughts and actions. Originally a medieval French prayer, the text asks that Jesus be in the head and understanding, eyes and sight, mouth and speech, heart and mind, and finally in life and passing. The composer’s setting for treble, alto, and tenor voices weaves these two languages together, creating an intimate and devotional atmosphere.
