GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST

When it comes to singing the Gloria, keeping the congregation engaged through the long text can sometimes be a challenge. Fr. Bart C. Ezeokafor’s setting of "Glory To God In The Highest" solves this beautifully with a gentle, rolling ostinato. While the sopranos carry the main verses—moving clearly through the familiar prayers of praise, adoration, and petition—the lower voices maintain a soft, rhythmic repetition of "Glori to God" underneath.

This layered approach gives the piece a wonderful sense of forward motion. The ostinato acts like a heartbeat, anchoring the choir and allowing the melody to float above it. It is especially effective during festive Masses when you want a Gloria that feels both joyful and reverent. The harmonies are straightforward enough for a parish choir to pick up quickly, but the interlocking parts make it sound full and vibrant from the choir loft.
