About Gaudeamus omnes
This motet by Carlo Gesualdo opens with a joyous call to rejoice in the Lord and celebrate a feast day. The text, in Latin, specifies that the rejoicing is for various occasions: the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the solemnity of All Saints, the feast of St Stephen, the passion of St Thomas the Martyr, or the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. Angels and archangels rejoice and praise the Son of God in honour of these saints and feasts. This rich SSATTB setting is ideal for significant festivals in the church calendar.
