Fidelium Deus omnium by Nicolas Gombert — Lyrics
About Fidelium Deus omnium
Nicolas Gombert was a leading composer of the Franco-Flemish school in the High Renaissance. His motets, written for four to twelve voices, were widely circulated and admired. Fidelium Deus omnium is a sacred motet for ATTB voices, set in Latin. The text is a prayer for the souls of the departed faithful, asking God, the creator and redeemer of all, to grant them forgiveness of sins and the indulgence they have always desired. Gombert's setting is a fine example of the rich contrapuntal style of the period, appropriate for liturgical use or the concert hall.
