About Felix namque es
Costanzo Porta was an Italian composer of the late Renaissance, a master of sacred polyphony. This motet, Felix namque es, is written for a five-part choir (SATBB) and is sung in Latin. The text is a Marian antiphon, praising the Virgin Mary as blessed and worthy of all praise because Christ our God was born of her. It continues by asking her to pray for the people, intervene for the clergy, and intercede for all devout women, so that all who celebrate her holy commemoration may feel her aid. Porta's setting reflects the devotional text with rich harmonies and clear textual declamation.
