Exurgat Deus

Samuel Webbe's Exurgat Deus opens with a strong, declamatory energy, the SATB voices moving with purposeful stride. The setting reflects the text's fervent call to God's intervention and praise. The music builds through sections of imitative counterpoint and homophonic declaration, creating a sense of dynamic urgency. The Latin text, drawn from the Psalms, expresses deep trust in divine protection and deliverance from enemies, culminating in a powerful affirmation of God's healing and support. Webbe's confident writing for mixed voices makes this motet an effective and stirring addition to sacred choral repertoire, offering both musical substance and profound spiritual expression.
