About Et respondens Iesus dixit illis

Gregor Lange was a composer active in the late 16th and early 17th centuries. This sacred motet, Et respondens Iesus dixit illis, is written for SATTB choir and is sung in Latin. The text is drawn from the Gospel of Matthew, recounting Jesus's response to John the Baptist's messengers. He instructs them to report the miracles they see and hear: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor receive the good news. Lange's setting would have been intended for liturgical use within the Lutheran tradition of his time, showcasing a rich vocal texture through its four distinct voice parts.
