En novus annus adest

Valentin Haussmann's motet En novus annus adest is a jubilant celebration of the new year. The Latin text asks what blessings the new year brings, suggesting that it offers both the best things and the greatest things, if one eschews vice and embraces virtue. This setting for SATTB voices masterfully captures the text's hopeful and festive spirit through its intricate polyphony and resonant harmonies. It is a fine example of Renaissance motet writing, offering a rich and rewarding experience for both performers and listeners alike, suitable for significant occasions.
