EKWERE M N'OTU CHINEKE

"Ekwere M N'otu Chineke" is a vibrant Igbo setting of the Nicene Creed, composed by Emma Orji. The Creed is the moment during Mass when the entire congregation stands together after the homily to declare their shared Catholic faith. Because of its length, singing the profession of faith can sometimes feel like a marathon for the assembly, but setting it to an engaging, rhythmic melody helps the words take root naturally.

This arrangement breaks the long liturgical text into nine distinct verses, anchored by a steadfast, recurring refrain. The choir leads the verses—moving step by step through the mysteries of Christ's birth, death, and resurrection—while the congregation can easily join in the confident response of "Ekwere m n'otu Chineke" (I believe in one God).

It brings a lively, communal energy to a profound part of the liturgy. The piece concludes with a joyful, layered "Amen," allowing the choir to bring the declaration of faith to a bright and uplifting close.
