About Ecce vidimus eum
This arresting motet by Palestrina is set to a Latin text from the Lamentations of Jeremiah, used for Tenebrae services during Holy Week. The music reflects the profound sorrow and suffering described in the words. The SATB choir moves with expressive harmonies to convey the text's lament: 'Behold, we have seen him without form or beauty... he bore our sins and grieved for us; he was wounded for our iniquities, by whose stripes we are healed.'
