Ecce sacerdos by Max Filke — Lyrics
Ecce sacerdos magnus, qui in diebus suis placuit Deo.
Ideo jurejurando fecit illum Dominus crescere in plebem suam.
Benedictionem omnium gentium dedit illi
et testamentum suum confirmavit super caput ejus.

About Ecce sacerdos
This sacred motet for SATB choir sets a Latin text drawn from the Vulgate Bible, celebrating a great priest who pleased God and was greatly blessed. The music unfolds with rich harmonies suitable for a liturgical setting. The text praises God's covenant with this holy man, bestowing blessings and confirming his testament. The latter part of the text is the familiar Gloria Patri, a doxology sung to the Trinity. Max Filke's setting is a fine example of a motet intended for church occasions, offering a powerful and reflective musical experience for both choir and congregation.
