About Ecce ascendimus Hierosolymam
Melchior Vulpius sets a passage from the Gospels in this striking SATTB motet. The Latin text describes Jesus’ final ascent to Jerusalem, foretelling his betrayal, suffering, and death, but also his resurrection on the third day. Vulpius’ setting captures the solemnity of the journey and the dramatic weight of the prophecy. This is a powerful example of a sacred motet, drawing directly from the biblical narrative to create a moving musical experience for a choir.
