About Dum silentium tenerent omnia
This grand motet for SSATTB voices by Guillaume Bouzignac opens with a depiction of profound silence and darkness, broken by the miraculous appearance of Jesus. The text recounts the Annunciation to the Shepherds, with the angel Gabriel announcing the birth of the Saviour in Bethlehem. The music moves from hushed expectation to the joyous exclamations of the heavenly host singing of God's glory and peace on earth. The motet concludes with a prayer for peace for the Pope, the King, and the illustrious Vitali, distinguishing between peace for all good-willed people and rejection of heretics.
