Quia ipse super maria fundavit eum, et super flumina praeparavit eum.
Quis ascendet in montem Domini? aut quis stabit in loco sancto ejus?

About Domini est terra
This motet by Philippe de Monte sets a Latin text from Psalm 23. It is scored for SSATTB voices, offering rich harmonic possibilities. The text, beginning with the declaration that the earth and all its fullness belong to the Lord, proclaims God's creation and sovereignty. It then poses the question of who may ascend the holy mountain of the Lord, answering with those of pure heart and innocent hands. The latter part of the text builds to a powerful climax, calling for the eternal gates to open for the King of Glory, ultimately identifying him as the Lord, strong and mighty. This motet would suit a Sunday service or a concert programme, particularly during ordinary time or for a festival celebrating God's power and creation.
