About Domine Jesu Christe
Jason Smart’s SATB setting of the Latin text Domine Jesu Christe opens with the choir in unison, quickly blossoming into rich harmony. The music follows the solemn plea of the Requiem text: a prayer for peace and unity within the Church, asking Christ not to look on sins but on faith. The composer builds the textures to a powerful climax on the final phrases, ‘qui vivis et regnas Deus per omnia saecula saeculorum. Amen’, before a final, hushed cadence. This motet offers a compelling setting of a profound liturgical text, suitable for services or concerts.
