About Domine ad adjuvandum

Samuel Friedrich Capricornus’s Domine ad adjuvandum is a Latin motet for double choir (SSATTBB). The work opens with the familiar plea for divine assistance, setting the text Deus in adjutorium meum intende and Domine ad adjuvandum me festina. This is followed by the Lesser Doxology, Gloria Patri, and a concluding Alleluia. During Septuagesima and Lent, the Alleluia is replaced by Laus tibi Domine Rex gloriae. Capricornus’s setting offers rich contrapuntal possibilities and dramatic contrasts between the two vocal ensembles, creating a powerful and moving sacred work.
