Dixit Dominus a 12 by Antonio Teodoro Ortells — Lyrics
Psalmus David. Dixit Dominus Domino meo: sede a dextris meis, donec ponam inimicos tuos
scabellum pedum tuorum.
Virgam virtutis tuae emittet Dominus ex Sion: dominare in medio
inimicorum tuorum.
Tecum principium in die virtutis tuae in splendoribus sanctorum:
ex utero, ante luciferum, genui te.

About Dixit Dominus a 12
Antonio Teodoro Ortells' Dixit Dominus a 12 is a grand setting of Psalm 109, a powerful text traditionally associated with the Messiah. The Latin psalm opens with God speaking to the Lord, proclaiming his dominion and ultimate triumph over enemies. The music is scored for SATB choir doubled by SATT voices, creating a rich and sonorous texture suitable for a large sacred space. The composer's treatment of the text emphasizes its triumphal and kingly pronouncements, particularly the verses concerning God's eternal priesthood and ultimate judgment. This motet offers a substantial and devotional musical experience, drawing on the Baroque tradition of Latin sacred music.
