About Dixerunt Caldei a 7
Andrea Rota's Dixerunt Caldei is a richly textured motet for seven voices, split between ATB and SATB choirs. The Latin text, taken from the book of Daniel, presents a dramatic dialogue between the Chaldeans and the captive Israelites. The Chaldeans demand a song from Zion, to which the Israelites lament their inability to sing the Lord's song in a foreign land. The motet builds to a powerful plea for deliverance, promising a new song to God once freed. Rota's setting captures the poignant sorrow of exile and the yearning for liberation, creating a profound musical expression of faith and hope.
