This delightful canzonetta, Dispiegate, from the secular Italian tradition, is set for a three-part choir (SAT). The text is a vibrant evocation of springtime beauty and burgeoning desire. The singers are urged to reveal the blush of beloved cheeks, likening their beauty to roses on the grass, and to part the clouds to let the stars shine, outshining the sun. They are asked to cast off nets of golden hair, which, if touched, would transform the air to gold. The lyrics further implore the beloved to reveal their sweet desires, to let their lips, like cinnabar, offer a smile that makes earth and sky rejoice, and to speak, so that the very wind falls silent. This is music for a moment of joyful anticipation and blossoming romance.
