About Dilexisti justitiam

This is a setting of the Introit for the Mass of a Confessor Bishop, a popular liturgical text. The anonymous composer uses a rich texture for the four-part choir (ATTB), drawing on the tradition of Renaissance polyphony. The Latin text speaks of the bishop's love for justice and hatred of wickedness, for which God has anointed him with the oil of gladness above his fellows. The melodic lines are carefully crafted to express the solemnity and joy of the sacred words, making it a fitting choice for liturgical occasions and a rewarding challenge for a skilled choir. The flowing vocal parts create a sense of spiritual elevation.
