About Dilexi quoniam exaudiet Dominus
Denis Briant's motet Dilexi quoniam exaudiet Dominus is a sacred work for four-part choir (STTB) setting a Latin text. The words are drawn from Psalm 116 (114) and Psalm 31 (30), offering a powerful expression of faith and reliance on divine protection in times of distress. The text speaks of the composer's love for God, who hears his prayers, and recounts deliverance from the pains of death and the snares of hell. It moves from a state of deep tribulation to confident trust in the Lord's mercy and justice. The composer's setting of this significant biblical passage would have been a moving addition to liturgical music of the Renaissance. The motet is sung in Latin.
