About Dignare Me
During the Easter season, or on a feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary, choirs might offer this sacred motet. Eduard Perrone sets a Latin text that begins with a plea for strength against enemies and for the grace to praise Jesus Christ. The second part of the text, added by Gombert, addresses Mary as Queen of Heaven and Mother of God, entrusting the singer to her care. The SATB voicing allows for rich harmonic colour, suitable for a reflective moment in a service or a concert setting.
