About Dic nobis Maria
Sung during Eastertide, this Latin motet for double choir (SATB.SATB) by Giovanni Croce reflects on the Resurrection. The text, a paraphrase of the Easter sequence Victimae paschali laudes, poses the question to Mary Magdalene: 'Tell us, Mary, what did you see on the road?' Her response, detailing the empty tomb and the glory of the risen Christ, affirms faith in the Resurrection. The composer contrasts the truth of Mary's witness with the deceit of the Jewish crowd, urging the 'victorious King' for mercy. Croce's setting would have been intended for use in services within the Catholic tradition.
