About Deus noster refugium
This motet by Claudio Merulo is a powerful setting of Psalm 46 (45), a text often used to express confidence in God's protection amidst turmoil. The Latin lyrics speak of God as our refuge and strength, a helper in times of trouble. Even when the earth is shaken and mountains fall into the sea, the text assures us that God is in the midst of the city, and it shall not be moved.
