About Descendi in hortum meum
Marbrianus de Orto was a composer active in the late 15th and early 16th centuries, a period of rich polyphony in sacred music. Descendi in hortum meum is a setting of a Latin text that draws imagery from the Song of Songs. The music expresses the speaker's desire to see the fruits of their garden, and to behold the beauty of the 'Shulamite'. This four-part motet for lower voices (STTB) offers a sensitive musical interpretation of this evocative biblical passage, suitable for a contemplative setting.
