About Da mihi Domine
The text of Da mihi Domine is a fervent prayer for divine wisdom, asking God to send wisdom from His holy heavens and throne of majesty to be with the singer, to labor with them, and to reveal what is pleasing to Him. Samuel Webbe’s setting for two voices, AT, is a devotional motet of sincere supplication. The direct address to God and the plea for guidance make it a powerful reflection on the human desire for spiritual understanding and right action. Its relatively straightforward vocal lines are suited for choirs seeking to expand their repertoire of sacred Latin motets.
