Credo Iii by Goddy Khama — Lyrics
About Credo Iii
When the homily concludes and the church stands together, the Creed is our shared voice of faith. "Credo III" is drawn from the beloved Missa de Angelis (Mass VIII), arguably the most widely recognized Gregorian chant setting in the Catholic tradition. For generations, its flowing, speech-like melody has carried the words of the Nicene Creed across the world, uniting congregations in a single, unbroken profession of belief.
This particular sheet brings that ancient plainchant into the familiar territory of tonic sol-fa. By scripting the chant into sol-fa notation, it opens up the Latin text to choirs who might not read square notes or modern staff notation. It allows us to teach the sweeping lines of "Patrem omnipotentem" and the reverent pause at "Et incarnatus est" with ease in the choir loft. Singing this setting feels like stepping into the deep, breathing history of the universal Church, right from our own parishes.
