Giovanni Animuccia's Cor mio dolente is a sacred motet for three female voices (SST). The Italian text expresses profound sorrow and repentance, with the soul lamenting its sinful state and seeking solace at the feet of Christ, following the example of Mary Magdalene. The lyrics describe a deep inner pain, a sense of being enslaved by enemies, and a fear of eternal damnation.
