The words of this sacred motet are taken from the Latin Vulgate Bible, speaking of Christ's birth and his mother's purity. The text opens with a call to rejoice with the speaker, who, from a young age, pleased God and from her own womb brought forth both God and man. This is followed by a metaphor comparing the speaker to a vine, which has borne the sweet fragrance of fruit and whose flowers are the fruits of honour and honesty. Adrian Willaert's setting for SATB voices masterfully reflects the celebratory and devotional nature of the text, offering a rich and contrapuntal musical experience.
