About Conditor alme siderum
This powerful SATB setting of the ancient Latin text Conditor alme siderum is suited for Advent services. The hymn, dating from the 7th century, is attributed to Saint Ambrose and is a prayer to Christ, the Creator and Redeemer of all. The text celebrates His divine power and asks for preservation from perfidious enemies, concluding with a doxology to the Trinity. Stoltzer's motet is a solemn and devotional piece that would serve well in a liturgical context, reflecting the contemplative mood of the Advent season. Its rich four-part texture provides ample opportunity for expressive choral singing.
