Christus resurrexit

M. A. Melvil’s Christus resurrexit is a vibrant SATB setting of a jubilant Latin Easter text. The music immediately announces its festive character, with bright, ringing harmonies and a sense of energetic momentum. The voices weave together in a contrapuntal texture that builds to moments of grand exultation. The text proclaims Christ’s resurrection, assigning glory, hosannas, triumph, and victory to God. It calls for Israel to sing of God’s goodness and everlasting mercy, reinforcing the Easter message. Melvil’s motet captures this sense of divine praise and confident joy through its dynamic choral writing, making it a powerful choice for Easter services or concerts.
