About Christum wir sollen loben schon
This motet is an excellent choice for services during Advent and Christmas. Johann Hermann Schein sets a German text that praises Christ, the Son of the Virgin Mary, whose light reaches to the ends of the earth. The lyrics reflect on the divine grace that filled Mary, a maiden who conceived without human intervention, becoming a temple of God. The text rejoices in the birth of the one foretold by Gabriel and announced by John the Baptist while still in his mother's womb.
