About Christ ist erstanden a 8
Sung at Eastertide, Jörgen Presten’s Christ ist erstanden is a powerful eight-part motet for double choir, SSATTB. The text, a German Easter hymn, rejoices in Christ’s resurrection and its significance for salvation. The first stanza declares Christ’s rising from suffering and his role as our comfort, a sentiment echoed throughout the piece. The second stanza emphasizes the world’s salvation through his resurrection. The joyful Alleluja of the final stanza reinforces the core message of Easter: Christ has risen, and we shall rejoice, for he is our comfort. Presten’s setting, in German, masterfully captures the celebratory and devotional spirit of this ancient text.
