Canticum trium puerorum by Michael Praetorius — Lyrics
About Canticum trium puerorum
Michael Praetorius's Canticum trium puerorum is a sacred motet for double choir (SATB.SATB). The text, in Latin, is taken from the Book of Daniel, a canticle sung by the three young men in the fiery furnace. It is a powerful hymn of praise, invoking all of creation to bless and exalt the Lord. The motet's structure, with its two choirs, allows for antiphonal effects and rich polyphonic textures, typical of the sacred vocal music of the early Baroque period. This work offers a grand and sonorous setting of a profound biblical text, suitable for a substantial choral offering.
