About Cantate Domino canticum novum
This motet by Giulio Belli is a joyful setting of Psalm 98 (97), a psalm of praise that calls for universal rejoicing. The text urges all the earth to sing a new song to the Lord, for he has done marvelous things and revealed his salvation to the nations. It speaks of God's remembrance of his mercy and truth to Israel, and the salvation of all the ends of the earth. The composer's setting is for double choir (SATB.SATB), allowing for rich textural contrast and powerful declamation of the jubilant message. This Latin motet is ideal for services and concerts celebrating God's goodness and power, particularly during seasons of rejoicing like Eastertide or general thanksgiving.
