Cantate Domino a 12 by Jacob Handl — Lyrics
Alleluja. Cantate Domino canticum novum;
laus ejus in ecclesia sanctorum.
Laetetur Israël in eo qui fecit eum,
et filii Sion exsultent in rege suo.
Laudent nomen ejus in choro;
in tympano et psalterio psallant ei.
Quia beneplacitum est Domino in populo suo,
et exaltabit mansuetos in salutem.
Exsultabunt sancti in gloria;

About Cantate Domino a 12
This is a magnificent twelve-part motet by Jacob Handl, setting a joyful Latin text from the Psalms. Perfect for a grand occasion, perhaps a festival or a high feast day, its jubilant message speaks of praise and exultation. The text urges the saints to sing a new song to the Lord, to rejoice in their King, and to laud His name in chorus, with instruments. It culminates in a powerful declaration of the glory of God's saints, who execute His judgment on the nations. Handl's setting for SSAATB.SATTBB is a testament to the richness of Renaissance sacred polyphony, offering a truly resplendent sound for a large choir.
