Canite tuba a 8 by Giovanni Bassano — Lyrics
About Canite tuba a 8
Shout aloud on Zion, and call the nations! Announce to the peoples and say: Behold, our God the Saviour will come. Announce and make it heard, speak and cry out: Behold, our God the Saviour will come. This joyful motet from Giovanni Bassano calls for a jubilant proclamation of God’s arrival. The text, a biblical passage commonly associated with Advent and salvation, is set for a double choir of eight voices (ATTB.ATTB). The antiphonal possibilities of the eight parts lend themselves to a grand and resounding declaration, fitting for the momentous occasion of the Saviour’s advent. Bassano’s setting would have been intended for sacred services, its rich textures amplifying the solemnity and anticipation of the message.
