Bless The Lord

"Bless the Lord, my soul" is one of those deeply grounding chants that immediately shifts the atmosphere of a church. Originating from the Taizé community, this short, repeating ostinato draws singers and congregation alike into a space of quiet meditation. The refrain is simple enough that the faithful can quickly learn it by heart, allowing them to close their hymnals and simply pray the words as they sing.

In this arrangement, the familiar four-part harmony of the refrain anchors the piece, while a cantor takes up the verses drawn directly from Psalm 103. We often hear this during Communion or periods of Eucharistic Adoration, where the gentle, rolling rhythm gives people time to reflect without feeling rushed.
