About Benedictus Deus
Philippe de Monte was a prolific composer of sacred and secular music in the late Renaissance. This setting of the Benedictus Deus, taken from 2 Corinthians, is a rich SAATTB motet. The Latin text expresses deep gratitude for God's consolation in times of trouble, asking for guidance in all actions to seek only what is pleasing to divine majesty and beneficial to others. De Monte's masterful handling of the six-part choir allows for intricate polyphony and expressive harmonic language, creating a devotional atmosphere suitable for a sacred setting.
